I shall be working tomorrow (Christmas Eve) and need to leave the house at about 8.30am on Christmas Day, so I don't have a lot of time for preparation... but there's always time to squeeze in a little writing with a notebook balanced on top of the saucepan while preparing sprouts and packet noodles for supper, as I have just demonstrated :-P
(Admittedly it was about a sentence and a half, but I do intend to finish that sentence tonight, honest guv...)

Exploration progress

Not much, but I did open some chest in Watatsumi Island today with some friends and I did a lot of leylines to farm friendship too. I was shocked by that new time limit thing claiming the rewards, but a friend said it'd been there forever, so I suppose I simply never noticed. It was definitely not as visual before, though.

Wishing progress

I think I'm around 58-59 wishes — nothing much. I'm starting to think that I won't get enough for Ineffa in time, but lately I simply cannot be bothered to spend so much time on Genshin... As I type this I'm only now realising that I didn't even claim my dailies rewards... Oh, well.

Combat progress

This is most of what I did today, as I played with a friend and my partner and did some bosses and enemy encounters. However, the highlight of it all was trying this challenge we'd seen on Instagram, in which we have to beat a boss with one person who can't see the screen, another who can't hear the others in the VC and another one who can't talk/is muted in the VC. We chose Childe because it was probably the easiest one to beat out of the daily ones (a friend wanted his reward) and it took us a few tries, but we did it! We also tried to record the result, but that didn't go well because of issues with the microphones and recording while on call, whoops.

All in all, just a normal morning. I was hoping I could get some progress done on a Secret Santa due January 6th, but it'd been a while since the last time we played, so it was fun. Apart from that, I'm feeling much better today! Still a little dazed, but no longer feverish, and I was finally able to work out after spending almost two entire days in bed.

It's probably because I'm not used to this kind of fandom space, and also because I've mostly never really cared about top/bottom ship dynamics, but I saw some people with "❌🔄" in their bio and thought that meant I wasn't not allowed to retweet their stuff.

I'm an impulsive retweeter, like my hands are quicker than my brain kinda deal, and I get real panicked when I retweet something from someone who has "❌🔄" in their bio.

Apparently, it actually means they won't do reverse pairings! So my panicking was unwarranted!

This experience has significantly aged me :)

Art commentary

It was supposed to be a simple doodle but it took me longer than it should have because I truly have no workflow and did not plan for the composition properly (as I usually do)... I kept on messing the coloring up, too.

I was pretty happy with how it came out, though! I don't draw chibi very often, AND I find it very hard to draw male characters with short hair because of how precise it has to be compared to long hair. Yay for creating things that make us happy <3

I'm thinking of uploading my stuff onto Pixiv. I also considered backing up my old art from dA onto Pixiv, but I'd have to painstakingly upload them in order since there's no backdate option haha.

I thought it would take me at least two other play sessions to finish it, but I completed the game yesterday on a VC with my partner while he played Undertale, surprisingly!

I enjoyed the game a lot, but I'm also a little disappointed by how quickly it wrapped up. It felt like everyone gave up on everything after they learnt the truth about the city, which was Not what happened at all, but suddenly it's all about Asya, Tosya appears out of nowhere revealing that the distortion has been going on for much further, that Asya has probably been experimented on, and yet they barely elaborate on any of that because shortly after they lose all their memories and vanish...

However, I do like what you can infer from the game and its message. It does make you feel like you can leave a mark in the world, even when it feels like nothing matters and you'll no longer exist in it, and that you can try and enjoy everything it has to offer despite its shortcomings. Some of Asya's monologues definitely felt like some sort of toxic positivity, but I do like the attitude of finding the joy in small things in life, so I found myself relating to her quite a lot as I was playing. I do wish it had warned a little more about the dissociative themes, because they really threw me off a few times, but I suppose I should have been expecting it by the general atmosphere.

All in all, and considering that it's free and available in most operative systems (PC-wise), I would probably recommend it to some. Honestly, it does feel kinda wild that a game of this quality is free. Now I'll probably hold on starting games as I wait for Christmas, in which I'll likely start a bunch. So excited!!

I just recently finished Awakening, and I don't really have much thoughts beyond: "Well, the Architect gives the world some interesting wrinkles." Like, the implications of the fact Darkspawn can be de-leashed from the "dig dig dig" compulsion is incredibly interesting. I just...kind of wish it had a bit more to it beyond what the DLC gave me and the suggestion of siding with him before the Mother fight.

The companions were a delight! I still love how greasy Oghren is. Anders was a hoot. Sigrun needed more screen time. Velanna was also a lot of fun (I love prickly characters like her). Nathaniel was pretty neat. Justice is fine.

The Vigil's Keep side characters were also friggin' great. Mr. Bombadier and Wade the Smith were highlights, that's for sure.

The general DLC combat upgrades are nice touches to the base game. I didn't struggle as much with stamina management in Origins, but boy were those stamina droughts coming in clutch during the final boss. The way magic is used for melee weapons was...a choice, I guess. I know I'll miss that flexibility as I continue on with DA2 and DAI, but still. My mage Warden couldn't hit the broad side of a barn with the default sword the DLC insists on giving to the mage Wardens.

I'll be playing through the rest of the DLC campaigns before moving on to DA2. I've tackled Witch Hunt and started Leliana's Song and Darkspawn Chronicles. The last one is so friggin funny in concept.

3 for the Memories' 2025 session will be open for posts on January 3, 2026 and will run for 3 weeks until January 24. Event participation is as follows:

1) Three photos only per person during each annual session. Members are encouraged to discuss the reason for their choices.

2) Photos can be hosted at Dreamwidth or elsewhere, and should not be larger than 800 px width or height.

3) All three photos should be in the same post. Cut tags should be placed after the first photo.

3 for the Memories is not a competition, and entries are not being judged. Rather, participants are encouraged to share photos they took in 2025 that they find meaningful in some way or which represent how they experienced the year.

Back at the beginning of the month, I decided for (Actual-not-Accidental) Advent to read something with 24 volumes... and I came up with Hikaru no Go, which has 23. But then I realized Whistle! has 24 and I can probably read and let go of that... While I started Whistle!... I have instead stuck with HikaGo. (Whoops?) And while my first time through HikaGo to completion was only a couple of years ago, I feel kind of different about it? Certain things really are telegraphed quite well and it's very clear the series ends with vol. 17, which is a little awkward considering it's a 23 volume series. (vol. 18 gets a pass as it's bonus/short stories) I feel like 19-23 is trying to set up something that just isn't strong enough to keep going, and while it should have ended sooner, ending where it did is fine.

I'll keep working my way through Whistle! as well. I know I haven't read it since I moved, and all I really remember is "soccer manga".

I'm also watching Gundam Wing, in earnest, in order to watch Endless Waltz on Xmas. It probably won't come as a surprise if I say the pacing is a bit different than I remember through the first bits. Somewhere between or after Whistle!, I should probably do all the Wing manga but especially Glory.

I need to get to the main library to pick up a 3D print. IDK if I mentioned my last one, but I fully intend to take advantage of this print-on-demand service. (x amount free, very cheap after) Aside from various Gundam add-ons and conversions, there are people just making original model kits and putting them out there for free. Amazing.

(You wouldn't download a Gundam?! Yeah it turns out we all would, I think. Someone made the conversion piece I've always wanted and holy shit, yeah. Yeah.)

The FAQ entry about renaming a journal is very helpful to understand what happens and the options when renaming, but I'm not sure what happens to the image links?

Do image links also get redirected automatically ? Or do you need to update your old posts referencing those images, since the username is in the URL too??

My household is celebrating House Christmas today, before most of us visit our respective families for Official Christmas, so it's time for the annual bad Christmas manip!

stdismas! James is extremely pretty here. Possibly slightly less pretty once I've badly drawn a Father Christmas outfit onto him, but these are the sacrifices we must make in the festive season.

Merry Christmas, if you're celebrating! May you have a better time than James Sunderland. (I don't know exactly how James spends Christmas, but I feel there's a solid chance he spends it just like every other day: having an absolute psychological breakdown.)
