Up to episode 10 of this, and I've been enjoying it so far. I'm a little surprised that people think Thorfinn is static, since I feel like the development we're seeing is slow and subtle. In the previous episode, we had the line asking about "what's so fun about killing?" (paraphrasing.) And we had his dream this episode about Vinland and his family, with his father telling him he's forgotten what's most important.

He's been so bent on revenge that he's been hanging out with a bunch of raping pillagers (it sits really uneasily throughout our travels with Askeladd and his men, but I like that they don't sugar coat it.) When he has a family back home who love him and need him, the most precious thing in the world. Is revenge worth ignoring what is most important to do things he'll never be proud of?

He's not dropped everything to run home yet, but I appreciate that. In real life, people don't just change overnight, unlike in shounen/seinen anime, where characters undergo climatic changes in an instant.

But people aren't really like that. Otherwise no one would fuck up their life forever.

I also appreciate Askeladd as both the most interesting character and the worst. Like, undeniably so. But he does have wisdom to share, like what he tells Thorfinn about history and the end of the world. Nothing lasts forever, including our people.

Luckily, shutdown this year has us staying on our shifts. (Though I admit to being slightly sad to not be able to grab takeout every day after work...)

sunshine_revival has started. The first prompt includes goals/plans, and since I do those monthly anyway, I'll get that posted sooner than later. (but not til after work, at least)

A few minutes ago, the first drop of 'Gundam Summer Fest' went live on the Premium Bandai site. I had a kinda chonky list of things I wanted and low expectations because "things sell out instantly" and yeaaah, lol. I actually managed nine of sixteen things on my list and then added in a couple other normal pre-orders with the same shipping month, so I'm pretty happy! There'll be at least one other drop next month? and then whatever after the pop-up tour is over, and of course I'm actually going to try to get to the last pop-up tour date so there might be some of these kits there?

I owe a post of kit photos and whatnot. Hopefully over the weekend.

I have bought more dirt though I'm not sure if there will be further plant hijinks this weekend or not.

Back at the beginning of the month, it was announced that there was going to be a Gundam Pop-Up Shop this weekend down in Kentucky and I thought 'well that's only seven hours away' and took a day off- but got talked out of it and a closer location has since been announced... I kept the day off mostly because I've barely used any, the year is half-over, and an extra day off sounded nice. ^^;;

Worked out well because I'll admit that finding out my ancient site was finally going offline did throw me for a bit of a loop. Did I then spend the night frantically archiving? Nope. I finished up HG Sazabi, who is a seriously big boy filled with Yearning, and noodled with some other stuff. And sprawled on my bed and let a cross-breeze blow through my place...

Saturday was mostly fussing around, looking for notes and building a little non-Gundam kit from Sheik Mainland, called a Yunque. Cute little critter, and while I'm not without minor complaints, it was a good build. Started on Starfall, finally, after what, two months of being utterly intimidated?

Going to try to get through a bit of my inbox. It's amazing that no matter what I do, I just don't seem to get anywhere. But, I suppose, it's not getting actively worse, either?

It's very weird to write a fic in which one of the central characters is the player of the game! Obviously it's not possible to write a representation that reflects every player, so how do you approach it?

I've ended up writing someone who's not quite me, but who played the game in a similar way and holds similar attitudes towards it. Hopefully it'll ring reasonably true for other players, or at least not outright ring false. (With the possible exception of the part where I push my 'Kris has an unrequited crush on Noelle' agenda, because I could not resist.)

I got reader's block for a while because I was so tired it was effecting everything, I did manage to finish one more book so I completed 4/6 before I decided to move on. I will definitely get back to Raksura #2 soon and Greenteeth is waiting for another time.

So I'm going to cheat and re-draw a prompt card and maybe take out this prompt from the game. New prompt: Featuring a group of friends. I picked Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda, I'm a little nervous about it since I don't know much but it has 5 stars from someone I trust. I forgot this has a movie adaptation as well.

When I have a fic idea, I’ll usually scribble it down in the back of my diary. It’s time to switch diaries again, so it’s time for the annual fic concept roundup!

This post lists all the fic ideas at the back of my 2024-25 diary. If I’ve written the fic, I’ll include a link to it. If I’ve started the fic, I’ll share a snippet. If I haven’t started it, I’ll write at least a hundred words on the spot.

First of all, here are the fics I’ve written in full. (To be clear, this isn’t all the fics I’ve written over the past year; it’s just the ones I’d previously noted the idea for in my diary.) Chapter 26: My current speculation is that the missing children have something to do with the prosthetics but I could be way off, the doctor seemed genuine when he was explaining them but maybe the boss knows more than the doctor.

Sebastien said he didn't sense any children in the circus, I think he must've meant 'besides the ones already in the troupe'?

So William from the Grim Reapers, which Grelle is a part of, is here too. I...don't really remember him;; He's not very professional, is he, revealing all their secrets...

So William is there because a large amount of souls will need to be judged after nearing death in a few days, what the heck is goin' on!

Chapter 27: Is this the first time that brand on Ciel was shown?? And what was with that flashback. T_T Laughing people in robes, the entwined snakes symbol, chains, a dagger, Ciel(?) lying on his side puking, a child's bloody body... I'm sad Ciel had to remember that but glad he's back on the case instead of focusing on the sucky part of acting like a commoner lol

That's how this volume ends, with Ciel getting caught?? What a cliffhanger. Hopefully he can make a proper excuse.

I am constantly finding parts of aspirational projects that were abandoned or otherwise lost to time. While cleaning up my hobby desk, I found four bottles of DecoArt craft paint and have no idea what I was intending to do with them... (black, white, red, purple - so a very basic set of colors that isn't helpful) Reddit helpfully let me know that while it's physically possibly to thin it down to airbrush consistency, it's not fun anywhere in the process. So that's out.

I also have an olive and a grey that I will someday tinker with and mix to repair worn spots on a wooden figure, but I've been putting that off for like a decade now and intend to put it off for a bit longer. I suppose the black and white can stick around for that?

(I guess these can all stick around for the hangar/manger if I ever get back to that? Not so much the red, but maybe the others can get used...)

The dining room table is also covered in zine-binding/related debris. I need to see what's there and what needs to be bound and do some little projects when I'm otherwise just watching something or being a mushroom.

But right now I'm a mushroom because it's too fucking hot.

MORE DELTARUNE RAMBLING IT IS. I wish I could write fanfiction, but, when I try to think of a concept, I just find myself feverishly analysing this game.

In today's entry, I try to pin down everything I can establish about Kris so far! I thought for a long time that silent protagonists just didn't interest me, but I am fascinated by Kris.

There are spoilers here for all of Deltarune so far, including the Snowgrave route. Some things have probably slipped my mind, and I haven't beaten the game's optional bosses, so I may be missing some details we learn there.

Also, here's a little follow-up thought on my 'Kris has a crush on Noelle' theory, i.e. more transparent Kris/Noelle shipping disguised as serious analysis. Not really spoilery, but does discuss an optional conversation in chapter three of Deltarune.

Am I biased and/or overthinking? Almost certainly. But I still feel a lot is clicking into place now that I'm viewing Deltarune through this lens.

Last night, when I was about to go to bed, I had a sudden revelation about Deltarune: Kris has a crush on Noelle.

No, hear me out, I swear I'm not just being an overinvested shipper. I mean, I am being an overinvested shipper, but I still think I have grounds for believing this!

There are minor spoilers for chapter four of Deltarune below the cut.

I'd love to write more Deltarune fanfiction, but it's tricky when there are so many unanswered mysteries! My main area of interest is Kris and their dynamics with other characters, but I feel I understand Kris less with every chapter that comes out. How can I write about them when I know so little about what's going on in their head?

I suppose that's why I'm doing so much rambling theorising. I can't write fanfiction, and these words have to go somewhere!

Season 1

Episode 8 rewatch: That opening, so many ships! Oh yeah, the mysterious Sirius Dieke. Mary wanting Catarina for herself. Everyone following her to the library like little ducklings lmao.

Oh I actually remember this episode pretty well, Catarina gets sucked into a book and has to play out romantic scenarios with the really creepy book guys + Sophia. I'm not gonna shame them because they didn't know their fantasies about Catarina would end up being used like this but. 😬 I love that little Sophia got to Kabedon Catarina tho lol

Sirius must've known Catarina would find the book, question is what his intention was.

Episode 9: It's so silly that Catarina still thinks she'll be judged for being 'evil' when she's clearly not to anyone.

Geordo threatened Anne so she would lie and say Catarina still had the scar so they needed to stay engaged. 😥

The girls have a pajama party and talk about what they'd want to do for their partner.

-Catarina would want to cook for them using the vegetables she grew

-Maria would want to make them sweets and cook for them when she gets better at it

-Mary wants eat with them, bathe with them, brush each others hair and style it and trade dresses... Catarina was confused at this because she didn't consider girls an option

-Sophia wants to visit bookstores together and fight together and other romance book things hahah

This was a great outsider POV episode. I wonder what happened to Anne in the original game? No that's too sad to think about...
