Snowflake 2026 #2

An opportunity to talk about my cats? I'm definitely taking it. I have two: a tortie and a black cat, though the latter is more of a creature than a cat. š¤
My spouse and I named them Poppy and Olive respectively, but we actually never call them by these names lmfao. They each have a million nicknames, but the main ones we call them are Pooper and Bug. Unfortunately, these nicknames are also the only things they respond to now. We like to joke that Poppy and Olive are their government names since we only call them that at the vet. And yes, I promise there are reasons why they have the nicknames they do.
Both of them came from a rescue, so we aren't 100% sure what their pasts were like. We hypothesize that Pooper used to be an outside cat because she never covers her poop in the litter box. She will swipe the floor, the ceiling of the litter box, or the walls, but never the actual litter. Sighs. So, her name became Pooper due to the nuclear bombs she always makes our problem. She also has the stereotypical tortie-tude but we love her anyway. She is a big fan of chin scratches, inserting herself into conversations by meowing at the top of her lungs, and most importantly, my partner's lap.
"Bug" came from her literally climbing furniture like she's a bug. She particularly likes sinking her claws into the bottom of the couch and basically Spiderman-ing along it. Unlike Pooper, who actually has a meow that sounds like a cat, Bug also just sort of... screams. Or squeaks. Especially when food is involved. If I'm carrying a bowl of cat food, she will follow me and scream the entire way. It's kind of funny because she'll even have some vibrato in there. She is also incredibly attached to me (perhaps too much even, like borderline separation anxiety) and is actively jumping on me and making biscuits on my lap as I type this. So, I'm the favored human, and food is pretty much the only other thing that competes with me as her favorite thing. Oh yeah, she also has three random white patches of fur that I call her 3 C's: in one armpit (or crack/crevice, as we like to say), on her chest, and her crotch area. š
Regarding fandom-related pets, the first one that came to mind was Steve, Rin Matsuoka's cat. Because Free! is really important to me. I remember seeing Take Your Marks in the theater when they were finally showing the movie in the USA. And when I say everyone, I mean everyone in that theater laughed their asses off once Rin muttered Steve's name with the most disdain the man could muster. It was great.
